Sandscape — The Thames

3.3 x 1.2 x 1.4 M

This piece for Broomhill sculpture park is part of the ‘Sandscape’ series , which use sand I source in different locations, whilst on journeys in my van.

Here triangular double glazing units are made to fit in to the steel frame that winds upwards like the River Thames. These are then carefully drilled and the cavity between the glass sheets of the double glazing filled with sand collected from the North and South side of the River.

The piece is accompanied by a map showing where the sands were collected from along the river, and a number of items removed from the sand when sieving it in to the double glazing units.
